I really, really disliked these books in the end. I don’t want to spoil you or put you off, but there are aspects of it, especially in the third book, that are very uncomfortable from a feminist perspective (think: Boy is a Nice Guy; Girl is a terrible person if she doesn’t love him!) I dunno, I read all three in four days and very quickly grew less and less fond of them and now I like to at least warn friends of the possibility they will make them crazy too.
Aw man! But the heroine is as cool as the movie trailer/random Tumblr gifs make her look, right? I might be able to forgive the squicky stuff if she’s still cool. :( But thanks for the warning!
Katniss is pretty cool, but the books work hard to strip away a lot of her coolness. She ends up losing a lot of her agency which pisses me off hardcore. Part of what pisses me off is she’s totally flawed – she’s impatient, selfish, hot-tempered – which are really cool qualities to have in a female protagonist, they work both to her benefit and detriment throughout the trilogy, but don’t make her the *~perfect partner~* that the Nice Guys and the books then want her to be, you know? I haven’t looked at the Tumblr stuff, I’m not interested in the movies. But I hope you like Katniss, I just feel like I’d feel bad if I didn’t warn my friends about the possible disappointment, especially my strong, feminist friends!

Aw thank you <3 Heh, at least I'm getting it from the library, so no-one gets any money! ;) (If only I'd done the same with Twilight…)
