Fandom osmosis meme
Basically! You shoot me a fandom you’re pretty sure I don’t know, and I’ll tell you what I’ve picked up from it via fandom osmosis. For example:
House: Hugh Laurie is a grumpy and possibly drug-addicted doctor. He has a friend called Wilson, who is actually Watson, because House is based on Sherlock Holmes. He does a bunch of stuff which should get him fired but somehow never does. The most popular pairing in this fandom is House/Wilson, and fanfiction writers have a love of giving House an adorable child to raise.
Twilight: (okay, I read the first one, but…) There’s a girl, a vampire, and a guy who can turn into a wolf (not actually a werewolf). Odd love triangles ensue. Vampire baby is born. Wolfboy attaches himself to unborn baby. Girl and vampire live happily ever after. People generally hate these books and movies with a passion and are normally in it for the lols. At least on LJ.
