(no subject)
I was watching this documentary about animals today (Yeah, I can’t remember the title) and there was a heartwarming bit about a mother dog and all her puppies being rescued from the house they’d been kept in, they were these adorable things, and then the announcer suddenly says, “These dogs are illegal in the UK so we ended up PUTTING DOWN THE MOTHER AND ALL THE PUPPIES” (not in those exact words)
There are loads of dog lovers on the friendslist, I’m sure, tell me that can’t be right? :(

I don’t know about the UK, but in the US there are a number of jurisdictions where “pit bulls” (more or less loosely defined) are illegal, and are routinely put down by Animal Control authorities regardless of the qualities of the individual dogs. Talk about stereotyping…

I’m not even a dog person, but that makes me sad. :(

There’s a term in the dog world we use called “breedist” where certain dogs are judged to be dangerous merely because of their “type”. Until the government abolish our stupidly unworkable and ridiculous Dangerous Dogs Act and start pushing for dogs to be judged by their deed/s, not their breed, many innocent animals will be culled for no other reason than because they look wrong. (In my experience, it’s the small dogs which are aggressive more than the larger ones, but they get away with murder because of their size.) In human terms it would be racism and it would be both illegal and unethical to judge people in such a way. *le sigh* I’ll get off my soap box… ^^;

No, get on your soap box! I think it’s a good thing to rant about!
