If you had a bunch of Doctor Who scans and fancied sharing them, would you:
I don’t mind building websites, but I don’t think I really have time to put together a decent working layout, although I’d sort of like to. It’s just…hmmmm…can you have communities where only you can post? That seems to be the best option, but I dunno…

Yeah, you can set it up so only you or selected people can post.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I’m far more likely to watch a community than regularly check a website.

Yes, you can set up communities so only you or certain people can post. Having an LJ community will be easier for people to check (put on their friends list). Plus your university work will start taking over like nobodies business shortly, the last thing you need to worry about is maintaining a website, whereas a LJ community will take care of itself for the most part. :)
