Collectormania

Finally, here’s my diary of the big event. :) WOuld have had it up sooner, but I had computer troubles…

Day 1: Saturday

Me, Jo and Emma arrived at about one o’clock. We would have been there sooner, but we had to wait for Jo to get dressed. ;) We walked in, and promptly ran into the TARDIS-

Took a few photos with my ancient screwy camera, including this one of some horrible monsters…

…and then we walked to the main hall, stopping several times along the way to squee at the various Daleks and costumed people walking around. During the course of the day, I think we saw Batman, Jack Sparrow, several elves, a Red Guard, and a Tusken Raider-

We looked around at the stalls a bit- I was very pleased to notice the giant Revenge of the Sith poster hanging at each end of the hall- and then we went to Costa’s, hoping someone would be there. We were in luck- loneraven, hathy_col and amchau were hanging around outside. They had Dalek Virgin badges, so I thought it was likely to be them. ;) They were extremely nice and gave us cookies.

We got thrown out of Costa’s for bringing our own food, so we went back to the stalls. At some point, me and Jo went off on our with the intention of finding Sean Austin, but got distracted by the Preview Theatre. (And in all honesty, I don’t think we had enough money for seeing any guests anyway. It’s a pity. Maybe next time…) I’m fairly sure the Preview Theatre was a new addition this year, but I could be wrong…anyway, we saw the trailers for Kingdom Of Heaven, Mr and Mrs Smith, The Fantastic Four, Revenge of the Sith, and Nightwatch, which looks completely awesome even if I have no idea what it’s about. Then I bought a 50p Doctor Who badge, featuring the Doctor and Rose, which unfortunately I have no pictures of.

Then we went up to John Lewis’s, mostly to eat. I had a Twirl, so I ate that. Emma wanted to wait for some of her friends to get here, so that was what we did. I ran off to buy her a camera at some point. I also took a picture of the hall from the top of John Lewis’s, because everyone has to do that:

And a picture of us in the John Lewis restaurant:

Emma’s friends showed up, we ate some more and then wandered around some more. I brought a couple of posters, which can now be seen on my wall:

We ended up back in the preview theatre, after meeting a couple more Daleks, one of which I had the following ‘conversation’ with:

‘Hello!’
‘WHAT-IS-YOUR-NAME?”
*runs off*
‘DON’T-YOU-RUN-AWAY-FROM-ME!’

And here is a very bad photo of me and a Dalek:

And here’s another Dalek, probably the one I shook hands (er, plungers) with:

Oh, and a mini TARDIS-

And a bloke inside a Dalek-

Then, we went home. Here is two of us hanging around outside something not a TARDIS-

And then we watched Doctor Who, my review of which can be found here. We also played Dalek monopoly:

Day 2: Sunday

I forgot to wear my new badge, which was a bit stupid. Me and Emma (Jo wasn’t coming this time) went back to Costa’s, and found loneraven, hathy_col, amchau and kowarth. We talked a lot about last night’s episode, and many badges were made. I made one for myself which said ‘Dalek/Doctor: theirloveissoBOOM’ For Emma I made one which said ‘But all the Dalek wanted was to be a morris dancer’ which is in reference to something or other my brother said when we were watching the episode. kowarth turned out to be rather a good drawer and made one which said ‘Gallifrey go BOOM, make last dalek cry’

Here’s my sticker:

I recognized kowarth from somewhere, and it took me ages to realise it was from his icon. ;)

Eventually everyone left, and me and Emma went off to see Hitchhiker’s Guide. On the way, I bought a Dalek t-shirt, which is still several sizes too big for me despite the fact it was supposed to be a small one…

Hitchhiker’s Guide was…well, I liked it, but I had the feeling all the way through it that while it was a good and interesting movie, it wasn’t Hitchhiker’s Guide. On the other hand, I liked that they did some more with Trillian’s character, and I liked the new touchy-feely Ford. I predict a sudden increase in Hitchhiker’s slash.

Oh, and I brought my towel. I had it on the back of my seat. Dunno if anyone noticed. ;)

After that we went home (my sticker still on my bag) and watched 28 Days Later, because it had come up in conversation at some point and had Christoper Eccleston in it. We watched it mostly so when Chris appeared, we could say ‘I’m the Doctor, by the way’. He turned out to be a bit of a bastard by the end, but the gorgeous soundtrack pretty much made up for that.

I wore my t-shirt the next day. ;)

Anyway, it was great…the next one’s in October, isn’t it? Maybe I’ll save up my cash and meet some stars next time. ;) And meet some people from tracy_island, as well. :)
