tlj spoilers

Right, I’m ready to start talking about TLJ! (Under a cut of course.) There’s one thing about this movie that no-one else seemed to like, but I did:

Finn and Rose fail in their mission, yeah (through no fault of their own) but I think the movie’s point there was that even the small victory they achieved by smashing the casino was something, something important. Those slave children at the end, they had hope because of what Finn and Rose did on their planet.

Some battles you can’t win, because there are terrible people out there. But you can still destroy a symbol of apathy, and hurt some war profiteers, and free some tortured animals, and make the lives of abused children even a tiny bit better. Some days that’s enough, because it has to be.

I just got back from The Last Jedi:

I’m sad, because you grow up, and your heroes turn out to be flawed and then they die. But I guess I’m also not sad because you grow up, and you sit down to a movie, and you watch it and you think “My childhood’s over, but someone else’s is just beginning, I hope they enjoy it.”

I will many other feelings about the movie in the future, I suspect, but I’m pretty sure that one’s going to last.
