A frost flower is created on autumn or early winter mornings when ice in extremely thin layers is pushed out from the stems of plants, or occasionally wood. This extrusion creates wonderful patterns which curl and fold into gorgeous frozen petioles, giving this phenomenon both its name and its appearance.

Cafe Art, a United Kingdom-based social enterprise, distributed 100 single-use cameras to homeless people in London in July and asked them to take photos with the simple theme, “My London.“ Eighty cameras came back, with more than 2,500 pictures on them. The results were not only striking — but showed a perspective we rarely see. (13 photos)
