DID SOMEONE SAY MIXED POC MARIUS BECAUSE EVEN IF YOU DIDN’T I HEARD MIXED POC MARIUS.

headcanon is that his grandpa is an unapologetic racist douchenozzle and that’s why Georges wasn’t good enough for his daughter and that’s why Marius never sees his dad and because Marius is just light-skinned enough to be considered white-passing he never really gets it but then he starts hearing his grandpa talk shit on his dad and something clicks and he just ragequits in .000000000001 seconds

Well, damn.

(Highlighting mine, obviously.)

I’m never going to run out of things in OFPD to analyze, am I?

Can you imagine, though, if that was the moment Grantaire realised – having never explained it to himself before- that what he felt towards Enjolras was real, true love? Ahahaha.

Fucking Victor Hugo and his fucking obsession with symmetry and symbolism. I hate him. So much.

(i checked the french btw and it’s also clairement/claire)

I kind of want to go down an offshoot of this path and translate this in terms of Grantaire realising that the only thing standing in his way the entire time was he himself; that his attraction to Enjolras (this in no way contradicts love, but that’s not the theme I want to run with right now) is in a very large way influenced by the strength of Enjolras’ character, of his belief, and of his passion. Grantaire, who has what he himself perceives to be a weak character, who cannot/works hard not to believe, who is passionate about nothing but his friends and – mostly – Enjolras, is attracted to these aspects of Enjolras that so contradict himself.

He is drawn to what he lacks, and he wants he lacks, wants that strong moral backbone or whatever Hugo spewed out, but he doesn’t realise fully what this means and would never come so far as to actually believing that he could achieve this Ideal, that he himself could be in any way similar to Enjolras. He’s too self-defeating and riddled with doubt for that. So, he just kind of sits and pines after these characteristics without realising why or that they could be something he could work on developing for himself.

What he realises then, before his death, is that the choice is his. All these qualities he admires in Enjolras don’t necessarily have to be genetic, something you are born with or develop without trying. He has to be active. He, in making this choice, transcends the boundaries of his old self and becomes his own Ideal. Of course he venerates Enjolras. Grantaire is not exactly the same; he is Grantaire, the convert and follower, that is Enjolras, the leader. But, he goes out with Long Live the Republic on his lips, as an equal. I can’t see this particular wording as a symbol of his realising that what he has been feeling is love, but rather as his finally realising what it is about Enjolras that has so entranced him, what he actually wants and what he can do to achieve that. And this is all, of course, driven by love, but has a lot more to do with his own development as a person as well.

Bless you all. That’s all I have to say.

New ‘Les Miserables’ TV series is basically a Les Mis AU fanfic brought to life.

Helmed by Veronica Mars showrunner Rob Thomas, Les Miserablesis set to become a modern tale about “a brilliant lawyer running a legal exoneration program who fights to evade the consequences of his own unjust conviction many years before.”Most people’s reaction to this will be something along the lines of, “Why would anyone even do that?” On the whole, fans don’t like it when people mess around with their beloved canon, particularly when it looks like something is going to be “Hollywoodized.”

But while Les Miserables does have its purists, the online fandom is weirdly unattached to the original 19th-century source text. Most of the fanfic is dedicated to AUs (Alternate Universe stories) where the characters are transposed into a different setting. And the most popular scenario in Les Miz fandom is modern-day AUs, the exact thing that Rob Thomas is planning to make into a TV show. In other words, unlike the negative reactions prior to the release of Sherlock and Elementary, this show already has a potential audience of enthusiastic fans.

It remains to be seen just how far into the fanfic zone Thomas’s adaptation will go. For example, the TV series seems (from Deadline.com’s sketchy description) to center around Jean Valjean, while most Les Miz fanfic focuses on the young revolutionaries, “Les Amis de l’ABC”. On Archive of Our Own, half of the 6400-plus Les Miz fics are tagged with the pairing Enjolras/Grantaire, a relationship between the revolutionary leader and an alcoholic, misanthropic follower who eventually dies by his side on a Parisian barricade… [READ MORE]

HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS I’M QUOTED IN THIS

hellotailor:

“the contemporary take is a primetime soap about a brilliant lawyer running a legal exoneration program who fights to evade the consequences of his own unjust conviction many years before. He must navigate high society, continue his mission of saving innocent people, and manage his tumultuous family and romantic life — all while staying one step ahead of a ruthless U.S. Attorney who refuses to let the ghosts of the past die.”

THIS TV SERIES IS ACTUAL FOR-REALSIES LES MISERABLES FANFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh god. I’m actually rather uneasy about this…. (then again, I don’t know any of the people involved, maybe they’re good) …I suspect my opinion on it will rather hang on whether they remember the social justice aspects of the novel and improve on them.

Would anyone like to join me and dancetaire RPing on thetransfigureddrunk? IT IS EXTREMELY FUN I THINK. (Basically Grantaire is in purgatory, and trying to get out.)

I could use an Eponine, if anyone wants to be her. She’s sort of hanging around between purgatory and Heaven, I’ve decided- she realised her mother was dead and went to look for her. And a Javert. (He’s wandering around in purgatory not really trying to get out.) And – and if no-one wants to do this I might do it myself- Grantaire’s sister. I imagine she’s praying for him in the land of the living, and not understanding how or why he died where he did, and wishing with all her heart he still lived.
