The amount of women writing Who is disappointingly small. The show has never had more than two women write in a year. And that’s a recent record, set by series 9 and 10 under Moffat (and, arguably, season 22 of the classics, but Paula Moore is a pseudonym, most likely for more men). And the fact that it’s apparently not for lack of trying is even more saddening. One of my greatest hopes for Chibnall’s run is that he’s able to take that further, particularly with the hook of a woman Doctor.

Can you possible shoot me the names of some good Who books written by women, if you know any?
I’ve been selected to have a story in Time Shadows. I’m one of 3 women in 25 writers, and I’m not entirely convinced “Jenny Shirt” on list isn’t a psued. I want to skill up and learn form other women writers. I know I asked this before, but the only name I got was Kate Oram.
Thanks if you can help. X

@infiniteregress17 there’s Lloyd Rose, the only one of hers I’ve read is Camera Obscura but was really good (and has probably one of the most famous quotes in the EU.)

Una McCormack’s written quite a few books for the new series (and some audios for Big Finish) including The Way Through the Wood which is brilliantly weird and The King’s Dragon which I don’t remember particularly liking but I fairness I read it years ago and my opinion may be different if I read it again.

Jacqueline Rayner has quite a large set of work, I’ve read The Sontaran Games and The Stone Rose, both of which I would recommend.

Vanessa Bishop, Kelly Hale, Louise Cooper, Mags L. Halliday, Natalie Dallaier (who’s only book was co-written with Stephen Cole) and Tara Samms all wrote some books but I haven’t read any of them so I can’t comment upon quality.

Don’t forget Jenny Colgan, and second Una McCormack rec.

“Tara Samms” is a pen name for Stephen Cole. Specifically it’s the pen name he uses when he wants to write AWFUL gender politics and have people think it’s ok because he’s using a female name. His writing is terrible, disgusting, and sickeningly sexist. Also, he writes his fetishes into his work. Which is gross.

I know Malorie Blackman’s written one. I haven’t read it yet, but based on her previous non-Who work I bet it’s good.
