This is Billy. I found him along with his sister as the only two surviving kittens in a litter that had been abandoned one winter about 6 years ago. As you can see in these pictures, Billy has grown to be a fine young boy, healthy, happy, and full of life. But as of the last 24+ hours, he’s been fighting for his life. And it’s all because of a careless mistake from a careless vet.
Billy has medical condition…well, more like an anomaly. He has no tail. As a result, pooping has never been his forte. When he was a kitten I’d have to help him go to the bathroom, and even later in life he was prone to constipation. The absence of a tail changes his physiology ever so slightly making his litter box time difficult. It got pretty bad recently, though. He started vomiting and hasn’t really been able to use the bathroom at all. We took him to the vet to get him treated for what appeared to be an impaction, and the vet said to start with an enema. The enema that was apparently given to my sweet baby Bill, was a Phosphate enema, WHICH IS TOXIC TO CATS AND SMALL DOGS. HE IS NOW IN EMERGENCY CARE WITH KIDNEY FAILURE.
See, the thing about vets, let alone any medical doctor, is that you put your trust in them, and go to them thinking they know what they’re doing. What I’ve learned is that you cannot trust anybody, not even a vet. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW ANYBODY, EVEN YOUR VET, TO USE PHOSPHATE ENEMAS TO TREAT YOUR ANIMAL. My vet didn’t fucking know this, or maybe didn’t care to check the label, who the fuck knows, but a simple google search would show you that phosphate enemas are poisonous to cats. (source)(source)

The vet has completely refused to take financial responsibility even after claiming to do so, and now has changed his statement to us that he is not liable. We have since taken Billy to be treated elsewhere, and as of June 22nd, he has been recovering, even after being given only a 20% chance of survival.
Because of this vet suddenly removing himself from any financial responsibility, my family is now 10,000 dollars in debt, and growing by the day. We need help paying off Billy’s medical bills, as well as seeking justice for what this piece of shit vet did to him.
