On tumblr, there’s this culture that if a famous person is disliked by a majority, it’s okay to pick on them for their looks. Like all of the sudden, it’s acceptable to make fun of someone for how they look because they’re problematic. Like I get it, people are hella problematic and it’s so necessary to acknowledge that and talk about that. It’s just that making fun of peoples’ physical traits seems harmful and not at all productive.
If there’s one thing I hope fandom leaves behind in 2017 it’s the idea that ugliness = moral corruption. It feeds so much into pretty every -ism and also WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT THAT BEHIND WITH THE ANCIENT GREEKS, GUYS
