I kinda want to write a Star Wars AU where Anakin never gets discovered by Qui-Gon or becomes a Jedi or Sith.
Instead he uses his winnings from pod-racing to buy freedom for his mother and himself, gets his way onto a freighter crew, before meeting and falling in love with the former queen of Naboo, who is living in exile.
Despite the outbreak of the clone wars, Anakin keeps working with his freighter buddies, hauling cargo and spice on the side. It’s not a glamorous job, but somebody’s gotta do it.
After a separatist attack on the freighter though, several officers are killed and Anakin gets bumped up to navigator.
Padme, meanwhile is pregnant, and the news about Anakin being bumped up to navigator, is bittersweet. She’s sad about how it happened, but at least the increased pay will help support the babies better.
Sadly, Anakin’s freighter is ambushed by the CIS and lost with all hands the day before the clone wars would end, and the shock sends Padme into a premature labor, that ultimately kills her, leaving Luke and Leia to be raised by their grandmother and later their aunt and uncle.
