timelordofrassilon:

Here’s why I’m upset.

The Doctor, inevitably and daily, steps out of his TARDIS into an absolute unknown.  Is it a planet doomed to destruction?  A space station on the verge of governmental collapse?  A ship that’s been adrift for eons that’s disturbing the weather on a gas giant below?  Nobody knows, and that’s amazing.  He  puts himself in harm’s way to protect people he’s never met for the sake of his own curiosity.

He chose to leave Gallifrey, he chooses to protect humanity, and he refuses to let anyone put others in danger, because that’s the kind of person he is.

So when you tell me that Series 9′s theme is “The Doctor: Born to Save the Universe”, you are taking away his core characteristic and replacing it with trite, flavourless “destiny”.  Because now it’s not a choice; now he’s just a good little Time Lord doing what he’s supposed to be doing all along.

Well, fuck that plotline, and fuck your destiny.

Bring the Doctor back.

I don’t think that’s actually the theme of the series though, I think it’s just the tagline they slapped on the trailer. I’m willing to bet it’ll have about as much to do with the actual series as ‘Doctor and Donna sit around a ominous campfire’ had to do with Series 4. (A trailer notable for also making the Ood look like the main villains of the sseason.)
